Your rights and protections against surprise medical bills
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you are uninsured, or if you have insurance but choose not to use it, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you receive it.
Under the federal No Surprises Act, health care providers must give clients who don't have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency services, including psychotherapy services.
- You can ask Lori, or any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
- Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

How do I request mine?
Ask Lori for a Good Faith Estimate when you reach out, or any time before your first appointment. Call 319-240-5035 or email rasmussencounselingandsd@gmail.com. She'll put the estimate in writing.
